Kansas turned some heads in the Big 12 this weekend by sweeping #19 Baylor and allowing a total of just two runs. A collective effort from Kasey Hamilton and Katie Brooks sealed the victorious weekend for the Jayhawks. As the only two Kansas pitchers to see action this weekend, they combined to throw 21 innings giving up zero earned runs and scattering 16 hits while striking out 11 Baylor batters. The offense was highlighted by Campbell Bagshaw who hit a dramatic 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 6th inning of the first game to put Kansas up 3-2, a lead they would not relinquish. Kansas also added two mid-week wins against Wichita St., a quality opponent in their own right. The Jayhawks now sit at 19-7-1 and have found themselves in ranking consideration.

Omaha (5-0 on the week)

Omaha traveled to West Lafayette, Indiana, this weekend to take on Big Ten opponent Purdue. The Mavericks showed why they took home the Summit League crown a year ago and swept the Boilermakers by a total score of 12-8. Kamryn Meyer continues to overpower hitters tallying 20 strikeouts on the weekend in just 14 innings of work. Meyer, a CSE All-American a year ago, ranks among the top of Division 1 pitchers in strikeouts. This year she averages 9.7 K/7 – good for tied for 7th in the country. Sydney Nuismer shut out the Boilermakers in game two and owns a 2.42 ERA across 69.1 innings this season. The Maverick offense was led by Sydney Thomason, who hit two home runs and drove in half of Omaha’s runs on the weekend. She owns a .287/.379/.609 slash line so far on the year. Omaha looks primed to take the Summit League championship once again.

Honorable Mentions

Tennessee (4-0 on the week)-

The Lady Vols continued their hot stretch by convincingly sweeping #11 Missouri, taking the series by a combined score of 21-2. Karlyn Pickens and Payton Gottshall continued their tear through opposing lineups combining to strikeout 26 Tiger hitters. Gottshall and Pickens are among the best pitching duos in the country and own an absurd 183/29 strikeout/walk ratio. Tennessee looks like a strong candidate to repeat as conference champions in the loaded SEC.

Cal Poly (3-0 on the week)-

Cal Poly makes its debut on the CSE Performances of the week with a sweep of Cal. St. Northridge, outscoring them by a total score of 8-4. Sophia Ramuno led the way for the Mustangs allowing just two runs over 14.2 innings pitched. She also struck out 20 Matador hitters on her way to collect two wins, a save, and the Big West Pitcher of the Week honors. Ramuno owns a 2.98 ERA and opposing hitters are only hitting .242 against her. Jessica Clements leads Cal Poly hitters in most offensive categories and is the current NCAA D1 leader in batting average. She collected seven hits in 11 attempts this weekend. Her division-leading batting average stands at .532.

Florida Atlantic (3-0 on the week)-

Florida Atlantic continued their solid conference start with a home sweep against UAB. The bats came to play as the Owls scored a total of 24 runs over three games and outscored the Dragons by a total of 24-10. Presley Leebrick had an outstanding weekend at the plate reaching base at a staggering 75% clip – 9/12. Trinity Schlotterbeck had a solid trio of games as well collecting five hits in nine at-bats. The two-way star also threw a 6-inning complete game allowing only two runs, collecting the win Saturday’s series finale. Florida Atlantic looks like a solid contender at the top of the AAC.
