2023 CSE™ Transfer Portal Softball Team Rankings©

CSE has set out to bring clarity and meaning to the ever-chaotic Softball Transfer Portal with Transfer Portal Team Rankings based solely on statistical data and no biases. Ranked below are the Top-20 D1 schools in terms of Transfer Portal Success in 2023.

Each school was given a “Transfer Portal Score” from their team’s transfer athletes, who were ranked and sorted based on awRAA (Offense) and awFIP (Pitching). awRAA is Adjusted Weighted Runs Above Average, which is an in-house statistic made by calculating how a given player contributes to total offensive output. awFIP is Adjusted Weighted Fielding Independent Pitching, which is a stat created in-house to determine how dominate a pitcher is, with no help from a defense. Both stats were adjusted and weighted for a player’s strength of schedule.

We placed every athlete on a typical 2-5 Star recruiting scale. The Top 5% of athletes are 5-Star players. Each transfer class is weighted on a Gaussian Curve, where the highest ranked athlete is worth the most points and the lowest is worth the least amount of points. This is done so a school can’t dominate this ranking on quantity alone. The top on this list had a good mix of quality and quantity.

1. Arkansas - 92.445

Arkansas comes in as the #1 Transfer Portal class of the 2023 cycle. With additions of Bri Ellis (#2 CSE Transfer Portal Rankings [TPR] Corner IF), Nia Carter (#5 TPR Outfielder), Morgan Leinstock (#9 CSE TPR Pitcher) and Reis Beuerlein (#17 CSE TPR Pitcher) it is easy to see why the Hogs dominated the portal.
